“Desire” is a strong and emotive word, it represents something which is felt very deeply. I remember one day being asked,“What is the deepest desire of your heart?” I did not answer that question quickly or glibly.
In Psalm 27:4 King David expresses the depth of his longing when he says, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.”
Do you find these words too demanding? Is David expressing something which is too emotional? Is his love for God and desire to worship and pray too dominant? Or, do you find you want to use his words and make them your own? This is a longing for relationship with God.
In Luke 22:15 Jesus said, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” Jesus is again using this powerful word “desire” speaking of his longing to celebrate the Passover with his disciples, which was a longing for relationship with those closest to him.
As I was pondering this word “desire” the song “This is my desire” written by Reuben Morgan came into my mind, and so I looked for it on YouTube, only to discover that another 2,180,544 people had also listened to this song.
This is my desire to honour You
Lord with all my heart I worship You
All I have within me I give you praise
All that I adore is in You
Lord I give You my heart
I give You my soul
I live for You alone
Every breath that I take
Every moment I’m awake
Lord have Your way in me

What an amazing number of people who seem to be expressing a desire to have a more meaningful relationship with God.
Jesus greatest desire was to see His Church become 'One' (Jn 17 v 21 and 23) and His Bride make Herself ready so that She can cry along with the Spirit "Come Lord Jesus Come!" (Revelation 22 v 17). If we desire Him then we must desire the things that He desires too.
"Oh Lord ....heal your Church of its brokenness and break down its divisions. Cause Her to love You deeply and cause us to love one another sacrificially. Then we will do 'mighty expoits' as Your people and others will be attracted to You. Then Your Bride will have got herself ready and the Wedding feast will will begin."
God bless you all
