Encouraging Intimacy, Uniting the Church, Empowering for MissionWho talks to you the most?
See All Words For The WeekWho speaks most into your life? What voice do you listen to the most? .....yourself!
We are always speaking to ourselves and consequently always listening to ourselves. We think. We internally discuss. We decide. However it is in the area of our own inner voices that the enemy operates the most...in the area of our own old nature scars. He resides in unhealed fears, emotions and memories. Bad past experience and unresolved issues can speak very loudly and the devil is quick to capitalize on them. He has to have legal ground to attack us and so often we offer him that unconsciously.
So.....like David of the Psalms.....don't just listen to yourself.....SPEAK to yourself!
Psalms 42 and 43 are examples of the way King David dealt with the negative, though maybe true, thoughts and accusation he was having. Ps 42 begins by David recognising his hunger for God in the midst of his desperate situation,,,," My soul thirsts for God as the deer pants for water".,,,but then he begins to listen to the voices within describing his awful circumstances and he sinks into depression and negativity. However he had learnt the value of positive confession. and so he soon moves away from listening TO himself to SPEAKING to himself. v5 "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why are you so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God". He repeats this again at the end of the Psalm and its similar in Ps 43.
The Prophet Habakkuk had also learnt this valuable lesson. In Hab 3 v 17 ff he says........" Though the fig tree does not bud and there be no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls....YET will I rejoice in God. I will be joyful in God my Saviour"
So.......don't LISTEN so much to yourself but SPEAK to yourself that which God says He is and is to you.....and what God says you are....in Him!
God bless you
